Child Welfare SA e-Malahleni is in operation since 1937 and has sustained itself for the past 74 years. However, the organisation is dependent on donor funding from corporate South Africa to continue with its operations and to provide the best care possible for the children in need of care and protection.
Monitoring, Evaluation And Accountability
Monitoring and evaluation forms an integral part of any welfare organisation to ensure that its services remain relevant in the dynamic field of social development in South Africa. Child Welfare SA e-Malahleni is no exception to this rule and has mechanisms in place to ensure accountability and evaluate its service delivery at regular intervals. These mechanisms include the following:
• Record keeping
• Asset registers and stock control
• Financial control measures
• Monthly management committee meetings
• Annual General Meeting
• Quarterly reports to Child Welfare SA and the Department of Social Development
• Audited financial statements
• Audits by CWSA area manager
• Community involvement and participation
• Monthly statistics
Financial Situation
Child Welfare SA e-Malahleni receives subsidy from the Department of Social Development. However, the subsidies only cover a portion of the salaries of the social work staff and do not cover running costs. This must be fundraised by the organisation.
We have a second hand shop in Witbank which generates an income of between R5 000 and R6 000 per month.
The organisation has the following annual fundraising projects:
• Golf day
• Tins at schools for our children’s day
• Street collections
Financial Needs
Apart from the above-mentioned income, Child Welfare SA e-Malahleni is in desperate need for monthly contributions to cover the running costs and to enable us to render quality services to those children and families in need of care and protection.
It will not be possible to write a foster care report or place a child in a safe and caring household; assist a child who was raped or run any of our community projects without stationary, petrol or a telephone.
Each month we have a shortfall of approximately R40 000 to cover our running costs.
We appeal to you to assist us by sponsoring ONE of the following items for ONE year:
- School clothing & stationery: R2 000 per month
- Waltons: R2 000 per month
- Clearcopy: R2 000 per month
- NATEC (IT): R2 000 per month
- Telkom: R7 000 per month
- Paper: R 750 per month
- Vehicle expenses: R1 500 per month
- Insurance: R3 602 per month
- Water & Electricity: R1 700 per month
- Food parcels: R10 000 per month
We undertake to provide you with proof of the monthly account.
Due to the fact that Child Welfare SA e-Malahleni is registered with SARS as a public-benefit organisation, you will be issued with an 18A certificate to qualify for a tax rebate as well as BEE points.
